The Brilliant Bamboo Brownfield Parklet is an acre site in the heart of Stoke Town / Stoke-upon-Trent in the city of Stoke-on-Trent. The site is a former pottery works: Trent & Crescent (1868-1957), where only some of the walls and floors remain. The site has been owned by Sainsbury’s since 2007. Brilliant Bamboo took stewardship of the site in July 2025 thanks to the High Street Accelerator Greenspace fund from Stoke-on-Trent City Council and UK Government.

We have a ten-year lease, and as our lease has a break clause, we’re considering how we can move within a short timeframe when the time comes.
Brownfield Parklet is our bamboo nursery, it started with over 400 bamboo plants in pots to which we take care of as our future crop, and lots of plants that have started to reclaim the site: bramble, buddleia, evening primrose, poppies, willow and birch…
We hope it’s also a place for play, imagination, and togetherness, featuring a series of workshops, events, and volunteering opportunities. We hope it’s a place for people and nature to come together.
The site is completely off-grid, and we’re exploring ideas of circularity, re-use and nature with artists, engineers and anyone else who’s interested and interesting for our site and work.
Since then, we’ve had support from people through donations, The National Lottery Community Fund, Warburtons Community Fund for our family kits, Arnold Clark Community Fund, and Cllr. Andy Platt. Thank you!
