Brilliant Bamboo Workshops June 24

We had a fantastic time at Keele University for the Next Generation Travel Group: Study Experiences Earth Summit on Monday 24 June.

It was a jampacked schedule where we got to meet approx.160 young people and their teachers and joined by a range of colleagues locally: Thomas Guilbert-Newell from Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, Alana Wheat from Keele University, The Globe Group CIC, GivEnergy, and SSE Renewables.

We were joined by Francesca Wheeler and Phil Eddolls / Phelds, and photos by Jenny Harper.

The purpose of the Earth Summit is to:

“The subject of climate change could not be higher on the agenda for educators. Earth Summit is a highly informative and engaging event for all key stage 4 & 5 students, with strong links to a range of examination board specifications.

Earth Summit is a 2-day event that will provide students with a chance to take part in a wide-ranging examination of the factors causing climate change, the effects it is having on biodiversity, promoting sustainably at home, at school and in the community.”

Study Experiences Earth Summit are booking for 2025 and if you work with KS4 & KS5 young people, take a look: Earth Summit | Educational Climate Change Event | NGT (ngttravel.com)

We created a hands-on workshop to encourage connection to the materials, to do this, we ran bamboo print and mark-making inspired by the process we used when working with graphic artist Rob Fenton on our identity. We also had a part of the session to explore the principles used by architects and engineers working in bamboo: make-it small and make-it big. We used the make it big part of the sessions to co-create an outdoor exhibition structure for all the prints the young people made.

Thanks for having us along, we’d love to do more. If you’re interested in supporting us to do more, or to book workshops or talks get in touch.
